As we all know the United Kingdom left the European Union. This issue has influence not only for British citizenships but also on EU countries citizens who have UK documents. Shortly we would like to inform you, what changes and where you need to pay attention to if you are coming to the Netherlands.
First of all, if you live in the United Kingdom and you are visiting the Netherlands for a short period, you can drive on your UK driving licence.
British licence
If you have a British licence, and you moved or are moving to The Netherlands on or after 1 July 2020, your UK driving licence is valid for up to 185 days from the day you moved to the Netherlands. After 185 days you will need a Dutch or other EU-country licence to drive in the Netherlands.
For example: You moved to the Netherlands on 31 December 2020, your UK driving licence is valid in the Netherlands until 3 July 2021 (31 December 2020 + 185 days = 3 July 2021). As of 4 July 2021, you are not allowed to drive with a British licence anymore.
Documents changing in the Netherlands
You can change your UK documents in the Netherlands only if you are registered there. Unfortunately if you are not registered in the Netherlands, all documents need to be changed in the municipality of your country.
British qualification card (code 95) or CPC
If you work in the Netherlands or for an EU company, or want to work for one, you will need to exchange your qualification for an EU one.
If you are not British but have UK documents, we highly recommend changing them into EU documents before coming to The Netherlands. Most of the companies in the recruitment process will ask you to have all EU documents and without them, you can face difficulty to get a job in EU countries and in the Netherlands as well.
